University and Careers Guidance
CIS is proud to present our Senior School Profile covering our achievements for the past three years. Annually during the month of September the document will be updated. Please download the pdf version of our CIS Senior School Profile 2012-2013
The University and Careers Counsellors work with parents and students in Senior School Grades 9 - 12 to help them explore career options after CIS. We believe that the process of future planning is more successful when students start exploring potential careers early. The aim is for DP 2 students to feel comfortable and confident about their potential career, course and university choices.
University and Careers Guidance at CIS is carefully structured grade by grade to lead students through the process of career selection and to help them to make successful applications to future institutions:
- Grade 9 - 10 (MYP 4/5): Students are offered an initial interview and can begin the career planning process. They are encouraged to try internships, volunteering and informational interviewing in fields in which they are interested. A hands-on approach gives students a true feel of how a potential career could fit. Internships and volunteer work also start building a student’s CV/resume in a particular career interest.
- Grade 11 (DP 1): Possible courses, colleges and universities are discussed with students, and students are strongly encouraged to make university/college visits. By the time they enter DP 2, students have developed an understanding of the application process to both UK and US colleges and universities.
- Grade 12 (DP2): Students meet with the Counsellor as soon as possible after the start of this school year to start their applications and go over their options. A personal statement and resume writing workshop is run after school each week to assist students with this process. Students can also use this time to register for UCAS, Collegeboard and the Common Application, and to begin their applications. There are continued meetings with DP 2 students throughout the semester and students are encouraged always to stop by, email or telephone with any questions or concerns they may have.
The process of choosing the right University or Course is the most successful when we work as a team in the best interest of the student.
We are here to facilitate this process for the students to find the best match for your education so please feel free to come and see us. The University and Careers Guidance office is located at City Campus on D floor in D 9 next to the MYP and IB Coordinators' offices.
Tuesday and Thursday mornings 09:30 - 11:00 are our open hours reserved for parent meetings. For scheduling appointments please kindly email christianemajgaard@cis.dk. We truly look forward to meeting you and working with your student.
