The CIS Admissions Process
For the current school year, we have places available in most grade levels - please contact us for the latest information.
The birth date guide for CIS grade levels can be found here for 2012/2013 and here for 2013/2014.
Applying to CIS is a three step process, and steps 1 and 2 must be completed before your child's name will be entered on our list of applicants.
Applications may be submitted at any time and new students may join the school during the school year if a place is available in the appropriate grade level.
Please note: Students enrolling at CIS must be in residence with a parent or parents at all times. Please click here for details.
Step 1: On-line application and supporting materials
Please note that submitting the online application constitutes a contract to pay the mandatory, non-refundable Application Fee.
As you fill in your on-line application, you will be asked to upload the following supporting materials electronically:
- The CIS School Information Form to be filled in by the applicant's present school; this applies to all applicants, regardless of age
- Copies of Previous Academic Reports (the most recent report and the end of year report from the previous school year). This information must be in English;
- A Character Reference from your present school (only for grades 9 - 12);
- Subject Choice Form to be completed by applicant: Subject Choice Form for grades 9-10, Subject Choice Form for grades 11-12
- Evidence of Birth Date (copy of passport or birth certificate or CPR number);
- Photo (preferably in .jpg format).
If any of the above is not available in electronic format and has not been attached to the online application, please send it by e-mail, post, fax or courier at your earliest convenience.
Step 2: Application and Registration Fees
Please transfer both the Application and Registration Fees under your child's name to our account. The Application Fee of DKK 2,500 is non-refundable. The Registration Fee of DKK 25,000 is non-refundable after you have accepted our offer of a place.

Step 3: Placement Evaluation and Assessment
Assessment will not be scheduled until all relevant documents have been received and reviewed by the Admission Team.
Our placement process seeks to ensure that the CIS programme is appropriate to the abilities and expectations of the students we accept. Evidence of any special needs programme dealing with either learning difficulties or gifted ability that a student may have been involved in, must be provided.
CIS reserves the right to close an application at any stage in the process, including after initial acceptance, should a family fail to disclose relevant or requested information, or if it is discovered that CIS is unable to meet the educational, social, emotional or physical needs of an individual child.
Primary School
Acceptance of applicants for Primary School is based on documentation from the applicant's current and previous school(s). In some cases an applicant may be required to complete a placement evaluation/assessment and final acceptance will be dependent upon the satisfactory completion of this assessment:
Primary School, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten applicants are placed according to date of birth, appropriate maturation, language and development level. Pre-Kindergarten applicants must be able to use the toilet independently.
Primary School, Grades 1-5
Applicants for grades 1-5 may be required to complete a placement evaluation/assessment of basic Mathematics and English reading and writing and final acceptance may be dependent upon the satisfactory completion of this assessment.
Middle School, Grades 6-8
Applicants for grades 6 - 8 will be required to complete an online placement evaluation/assessment of their abilities in Mathematics and English.
Where appropriate, applicants will also be assessed in German, Spanish or French as Language B as well as Danish as language A or B for applicants who have already studied Danish.
Final acceptance is dependent upon the satisfactory completion of the assessments.
Senior School, Grades 9 - 12
For students applying for entry into the Senior School (grades 9 - 12) an assessment will be made of their abilities in Mathematics, English as Language A and, where appropriate, in German, Spanish or French as Language B as well as Danish as language A or B for applicants who have already studied Danish. In cases where students demonstrate low levels of functional English, we will have them further assessed by our English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department.
