Mother Tongue Programme
CIS strongly promotes international mindedness on the part of everyone. The school encourages access to different cultures, perspectives and languages. The acquisition of more than one language enriches personal growth and helps facilitate international understanding for both the student and his/her peer. By continuing to have opportunities to engage in a mother tongue, learners are able to build on the language skills they have already established and it facilitates the learning of additional languages.
Furthermore, it enables students to remain in touch with their culture and makes it possible for students to re-adjust to their home community and/or education system, should they return. An impressive 10 different mother tongue languages are currently offered as an after school activity at CIS (fee payable) and over 70 students are enrolled. The following languages are taught either in small groups or during individual lessons: Chinese, Dutch (at CIS and at the Dutch school in Virum), German, Finnish, French, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian and Swedish (internet-based programme) and Spanish.

Danes Worldwide Programme
The Extended Danish-program for native Danish speakers submitted by Danes Worldwide started in 2006 at CIS and became a great success. The lessons are coordinated with the school’s normal Danish lessons in order to extend the Danish program. It is an after school activity and fee payable. The Danes Worldwide Program caters for PYP 1-PYP 5 students. For more information, please contact Mrs. Karen Moeller Offermanns on offermaenner@yahoo.de.
